2010 by Jeffrey Guinabo

Election for 2010 is now fast approaching. Many politicians are eager to win the hearts of people in order for them to hit the spot…the spot which will result to them being our future leaders. They promote all of the good things about them: charm, livelihood opportunities and community services to the society. Some start their huge projects, programs and advocacy to back up about their candidacy. For the financially-advantaged politicians, they make use of excessive media mileage, to the point of being annoying. All of these happen during election time.

It is indeed our country specifically our government which lacks support and opportunities to the Filipino community. At this stage, it is a great shame to other countries that the Philippines are one of the poorest countries in the world despite of its bountiful resources. It is not possible if our future leaders possess character that could uplift and bring up the morality of our culture as Filipinos. But today, only few could be seen in the stage performing their exemplified duties and responsibilities and more of them are only using the position for fame and spending money for their personal leisure and entertainment. A lot of them do it! Because of that, we are the one who are suffering in their irregularity. Actually, there are many things to do especially when you are in the position. One is that you can identify several alternatives to solve society’s programs. Second, you can open the possible opportunities in the society and develop projects that could massively impact on the ordinary citizens and businesses. Admittedly, being a politician is not an easy task to perform. In the final analysis, however, it still is the choice of the politician…a choice one accepts because one would like to serve the public.

It is now our time to build up our strength, which would clearly manifest if each of us would register until October 30. Finally, it would boil down to May 14 when we choose those whom we feel deserve the position. Our choice could potentially prompt a huge transformation in our country or it could just be like the other elections we’ve done in the past. Let us remember that we and those politicians are landing on the same ground; All of us is the Government. The difference is just they possess the power to make decisions may it be for the good or the bad of the people. So register now and vote wisely!
